Origin, historical outline

Foundation
In 1992, some bus enthusiasts from the TMZ founded the "Historischer-Züri-Bus" (HZB) association. In 1996, a bus workshop was set up and renovated in the basement of the Oerlikon tram depot and work began on restoring the VBZ standard bus Saurer 4ZP No. 305, built in 1953.
Highlights of the HZB
1995 40 years of articulated buses in Zurich (Garage Hardau)
1999 Visit to the Basler Verkehrsbetriebe (with SH 560-25)
1999 60 years of trolleybuses (installation at Garage Hardau)
2000 Trip with the last Büssing BS 110 V still in running order (civil defence)
2000 Visit to the Mercedes bus factory in Mannheim (D)

From the HZB to the TMZ bus group
In the 1990s, the three associations TMZ, APS and HZB endeavoured to preserve the VBZ's cultural heritage. At the request of the transport company (they did not want to negotiate with three associations), the two associations TMZ and HZB merged in 2006 and the restorers of the former HZB became the bus group of the TMZ.

Move to the Hard depot
Due to the renovation of the Oerlikon tram depot in 2009, the bus workshop had to move to the Hard depot on Escher-Wyss-Platz (former workshop of the tram group). Ten years later, this workshop also had to be vacated as a major construction project was started on the site of the Hard tram depot.

Various locations
The bus group was given new/old premises in the Wartau tram workshop for tools and some of the archive material. Spare parts, special tools, exhibition items and surplus furniture were stored in the external storage facility in Etzwilen/TG. The three museum buses are stored in the VBZ Hagenholz bus garage in Zurich-Oerlikon.
Work evenings

Weekly work
The active members of the bus group (hard core) usually meet once a week in the Hagenholz bus garage or in Wartau. They then carry out repairs, cleaning and maintenance work on the three TMZ buses.

For larger jobs that require lifting equipment, for example, the wash bay or a workshop area may be used at weekends by arrangement with the garage management.
