The association, which currently has around 550 members, looks after the operation of the historic trams owned by the Zurich Transport Authority. It offers its members a varied annual programme and makes the museum's lively operation possible through voluntary work.

Your membership or donation will help to restore more vehicles and secure the museum's future funding.

It all began with simple tools and a lot of passion. In 1967, a few Zurich tram enthusiasts got together in the unheated rear depot of Burgwies. They founded the Zurich Tram Museum Association and have restored 15 historically valuable rail vehicles in around 70,000 hours of hard work to date. With perseverance and expertise, the members collected documents, treasures and witnesses to contemporary history - and soon they had put together what is still the most important collection on the development of local transport in Switzerland.

The old museum premises in Wartau were no longer sufficient to present all the treasures in an appropriate form. Thanks to a lot of persuasion from the city and donors large and small, the association was able to fulfil a dream: On 24 May 2007, the Zurich Tram Museum was inaugurated in the Burgwies depot. The operation of the museum was taken over by the Tram Museum Zurich Foundation, which was set up specifically for this purpose.
